Praise for Marrow Women Vol 1:
Marrow Women is an online and print resource for all women. It is a constantly expanding collection of candid, anonymous interviews of women who have chosen to share their stories as a form of charity and therapy.
Too many women are destined to experience the same trauma as their mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers, as a result of multi-generational shame and silence. Marrow Women seeks to combat this vicious cycle through the paradox of community via anonymity. Since the interviews are anonymous, women feel free to speak their deepest truths without fear of judgement or reproach. Though their experiences are unique, the emotional wisdom conveyed is universally applicable. The ultimate aim is for women everywhere to know that no matter what they have endured, no matter how traumatic or unspeakable, they are never alone.
Our ancestors are spoken for en masse but vanished as individuals; yet now we can speak for ourselves, our words released when our daughters require, when the ponytails turn to wedding veils and questions arise like a flood. They will need us then- our voices, our vices, our juices and our truths, our hell nawl's and me too’s. They will need to hear our giggles and sighs, see our stretch marks and c-section scars, hear the clink of ice in our sweaty glasses, smell the exhale of our smoke, see the flash of our thighs as we dance, taste the glitter of our tears, understand that we are not etched in stone, that we are not figments of fixed memory, but real flesh and blood women, who pray and laugh and doubt and live.
We spend so much of our time in a digital realm full of beautiful masks and perfectly styled desperation. We are starving for connection and wisdom while gorging ourselves on selfies and soundbites. We need each other, now more than ever, to tell the truth. We must reach beyond the shallow borders of ourselves and dive in the deeper waters of the shared experience. Some might wonder, “Where do you find the women who tell these crazy stories?” The answer is everywhere. You may know one, in fact. They are our doctors, social workers, politicians, professors, police officers, artists, stay-at-home moms, entrepreneurs, grandmothers, writers, activists. These are the women who make the world go around, wounded superheroes willing to show their own scars. Perhaps even you, reading this, are a Marrow Woman with a story burning in your chest.
I created this resource so that you would know you are not alone, not ever. We are all surviving out here. We all have stories. Read and be encouraged. May you find the words you came for.
